Since its creation in 1951, IOM has helped more than 11 million people to start new lives in their own country or through resettlement abroad. Each migrant has a unique story to tell. The personal accounts contained in this section tell the stories of some of these migrants. The fact that these migrants were able to tell their story was made possible by the many governments that contribute to IOM's activities, international and non-governmental partner agencies, and the dedication and committment of IOM's 5,000 staff worldwide. Stories of migrants assisted by IOM Office for the Nordic and Baltic States, and the Eastern European Neighbourhood countries (East)
