Migration for Development in the Horn of Africa - Health expertise from the Somali diaspora in Finland (2009, English)
Directed at a diverse audience of policymakers and practitioners, as well as the larger public interested in contemporary transnational issues, this book captures the context in Finland and Somalia which has led to the very first MIDA (Migration for Development in Africa) project for Somalia. Contributors from a variety of fields and backgrounds discuss, among others, the links between migration and development, the migration profile of Somalia and prevailing needs of the Somali health sector, and the concrete contributions made by IOM Helsinki’s pilot project “MIDA Health - Strengthening the Health Sector in Somaliland and Puntland through the Engagement of Somali Diaspora Health Professionals from Finland”. In providing a summary of lessons learned and a comprehensive set of conclusions, this book aims to inspire and guide future ‘migration for development’ activities in the Somali health sector and beyond.
"Integration: A Multifaith Approach" (IAMA) - Project Report (2009, English)
The project "Integration: A Multifaith Approach" (IAMA) developed and applied civic education training in a multifaith context for migrant religious leaders in Denmark, Finland, Germany, Latvia, and the United Kingdom. This report contains a summary of project activities, the external evaluation report, as well as a section on lessons learned and recommendations.
PIELAMI: Cooperation on preventing the Illegal employment of labour migrants with a view to promoting legal employment opportunities (2007, English and Russian)
This report was published under the project "Building cooperation on preventing illegal employment of labour migrants (PIELAMI)". The project acted as a first step to building administrative cooperation and encouraging the exchange of information and best practices on preventing illegal employment of labour migrants and promoting lawful employment opportunities in the service and construction sectors among authorities, trade unions, NGOs, and other relevant agencies in Finland, Latvia, and North-West Russia. The report includes the material and findings of the project.

Counter-Trafficking Assessment and Proposals for Counter-Trafficking Capacity Building in the Kaliningrad Oblast (2006, Russian and English)
This report was published under the project “Trafficking Assessment and Capacity Building Project for the Kaliningrad Oblast” and is an assessment of the scale and scope of trafficking to, through, and from the Kaliningrad Oblast. The aim of the project was to prevent and curtail trafficking in human beings through enhanced understanding of the crime as it relates to the Kaliningrad Oblast.
Prevention of Human Trafficking: Methodology for Working with Youth (2005, Estonian and Russian)
This teacher’s manual was published within the framework of the project “Prevention of Trafficking III: Information for Youth in the Baltic States”, a regional project funded by Sida. The manual has been distributed to schools all over Estonia and provides teachers with teaching material on the subject of human trafficking, including a description of what trafficking in persons is and how youth can learn to identify possible risks associated with traveling abroad. The manual is attractive and easy to use, including exercises and role plays. The manual is available in Estonian and Russian.

This report was published within the framework of the IOM Tallinn project "Estonian Research and Information on Trafficking in Human Beings." The aim of the research project was to investigate the scope, patterns and mechanisms of trafficking in human beings in Estonia. The research timeframe was restricted to the period 2001-2004 so as to be able to assess the most recent trends in trafficking in women for sexual exploitation.

Migration and Transit as Seen by the Kaliningrad Population - Representative Public Opinion Survey of the Kaliningrad Population (2005, English)
This survey was published under the project Free Movement, Secure Borders: Analysing the Facilitated Transit Scheme from the Russian Federation to Kaliningrad, via Lithuania. Commissioned by the International Organization for Migration, a representative public opinion survey was carried out amongst 1,060 respondents with the objective of identifying the attitudes and feelings of the citizens of Kaliningrad region related to migratory processes.

Teacher's Manual - Organization of Preventative Work on Trafficking in Human Beings (2004, Russian and English)
The Teacher’s Manual was published within the framework of the IOM Minsk project Combating Trafficking in Women in the Republic of Belarus, funded by PRM. The purpose of the manual is to present the phenomenon of Trafficking in Human Beings and to provide methodological instructions about trafficking to teachers, psychologists, and social pedagogues for subsequent use in curricular and extra-curricular school activities. The manual obtained endorsement from the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus for use in all educational institutions.
Research on the Mechanisms of Trafficking in Women in Belarus (2004, Russian and English)
This research was published within the framework of IOM Minsk project Combating Trafficking in Women: Belarus. Prosecution and Criminalization funded by the Swedish International Development and Cooperation Agency (Sida). It paints a picture of how trafficking works in Belarus and contains information about trafficking mechanisms, facts and ways of recruitment. The research incorporates the following six issues: international legal aspects of trafficking in persons; trafficking in persons: criminal legislation; root causes of the growth of trafficking in persons; human trafficking mechanisms; trafficking in persons as an organized criminal activity; and state legal policy of counteracting trafficking in persons in the Republic of Belarus.

The main objective of this guide is to provide practical information about the resettlement of refugees and the establishment of resettlement programmes. The guide is based on the experiences of the MORE Project which was a Finnish-Irish development project looking at the resettlement of refugees. The MORE Project was co-funded by the European Union. IOM Helsinki organized the MORE Project - Closing Conference that was held on the 8 and 9 April 2005 in Vantaa, Finland.

The anti-discrimination handbook published in the framework of the Awareness Raising and Legal Training on Discrimination Practices project includes national and international anti-discrimination legislation and case law. It is designed to complement training workshops and can be used as reference material by judicial personnel in discrimination cases. The training handbook can be downloaded (in PDF format) below as a whole or as individual chapters. The handbook material exists in the national languages of the transnational project partnership (Finnish, French, German, Greek, and Swedish). Some of the material is also available in English (chapters I, II and III).
