In September 84 persons returned through IOM Finland's program for Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR). The majority - 57 persons - returned to Iraq. The second destination in September was Albania, where 15 persons returned.

All in all, 1118 persons have returned through the programe for assisted voluntary return during 2017. They have returned to 32 different countries.

IOM Finland's assistance to voluntary returnees from Finland is based on an agreement with the Finnish Immigration Service, Migri. Returnees can be granted either cash grants to help them reintegrate or are given in-kind-support like training.

According to IOM, voluntary return should always be the preferred mode of return, as it is the most sustainable alternative in view of the reintegration of migrants.
