Human Trafficking is not a Fairy Tale

IOM Helsinki launched the second joint counter-trafficking campaign in cooperation with the Finnish Ombudsperson for Minorities on 3 December 2012. Themed ‘Human Trafficking is not a Fairy Tale’, the campaign aims to raise awareness within the general public about human trafficking in Finland.

There are hundreds of victims of human trafficking, even in Finland. However, identification of victims is difficult as human trafficking is a fairly unknown phenomenon in Finland. Through awareness-raising activities, this campaign aims to increase prospects of victim identification as well as enhance realization of victims’ rights.

Following the campaign’s theme, notable Finnish musicians Paula Vesala and Jori Sjöroos created a new version of the well-known Finnish song, Satumaa (the fabled land).Kennel Helsinki produced a touching and powerful music video to support the song. The music video tells the story of a young woman who becomes a victim of sexual exploitation in her search for a better life for herself and her family.Campaign activities last until 18 December and also include print, radio and online advertisement materials.
