Almost 400 hundred migrants have returned with assistance of IOM Finland this year

In May 2018 a total of 58 persons returned with the assistance of IOM Finland. There is a slight increase compared to the previous month this year but it is a lower number compared to the year before.

Our 25th Anniversary Seminar – Building a shared future vision

The audience gathered for IOM Finland's Anniversary Seminar.IOM Finland celebrated the 25th anniversary of the founding of the office in Helsinki with a high-level seminar for invited guests. The seminar was held in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the House of the Estates in Helsinki.

25 Years of IOM Presence in Helsinki

In 2017 we celebrated 25 years of IOM presence in Helsinki.

The agreement to open an IOM mission in Finland was signed in Geneva on April 22, 1993 by IOM’s Director General at that time, James N. Purcell and Antti Hynninen, Ambassador at Finland’s permanent mission to the international organizations in Geneva.

Return programme in Iceland continues

IOM Finlands assists voluntary returnees from Finland and Iceland.

IOM Finland and the Icelandic authorities have agreed to continue their cooperation on migrant returns. IOM Finland will continue to provide Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) services to eligible migrants who wish to return home from Iceland at least until January of 2020.

49 returnees in April, total of 339 returnees in 2018

In April 2018 a total of 49 persons returned with the assistance of IOM Finland. It is a lower number compared to the year before. Overall this year 339 migrants have returned to their countries of origin through IOM's Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration -programme. Among the returned four have been victims of trafficking, two more cases in April.



Almost 300 persons have returned with IOM this year


From the beginning of the year 290 persons have returned to their countries of origin through IOM's Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration -programme. The majority, 231 persons, have returned to Iraq, but there have been returns to a total of 18 countries.

Migrants lead fight against TB

Tuberculosis, or TB, continues to be the leading cause of death from a single infectious agent worldwide, according to the Global TB Report 2017. Every day, there are 28,000 new TB cases and 4,500 related deaths.

On 24 March, IOM, the UN Migration Agency, and other partners will honor the many ‘Leaders for a TB-free world’ for World Tuberculosis Day.
